Scam Alert: Ecobank Internet Banking Used in Scam Email

I know few things about Ecobank Internet Banking. I searched it on Google and I found out that there is a real Ecobank located in Africa. Through Ecobank internet banking, clients are able to have a real-time transactions, make a online payments, transferring of funds domestic and international and can reach the customer service supoort 24/7. This is another money transfer scams via email!

I was curious when I read an email with a subject “MG.61 X 0000 X MG!!”. And the email is about transferring of funds worth “$3.500,000”. Wow, this is a huge money! And the sender use the name of the bank “Ecobank” just like the scam alert about Islamic Bank in UAE; a bank wire transfer scams example.

I no this is just a tactic to scam people. The sender will send you this type of email and wants to get your personal information. Here’s the exact message I’ve got from “Dr. John Keno” (sender) with an email address “luk78arg@alice.it”.

($3.500,000) has been approved by the Board of directors of ECOBANK today.
Contact Mr peter for direction on how to receive your funds.His email:

What’s the reasons why the sender what me to get connected wuth Mr. Peter? Who is Mr. Peter anyway? According to the message, the $3,500,000 worth of funds was approved by Ecobank Board of Directors. Is Mr. Peter a member of Ecobank Board of Directors? I think no. The sender wants me to get connected online via email at mrpetermorris10@gmail.com and through phone at +22968017715 Is Mr. Peter from Nigeria? I hope the staffs from Ecobank Head Office will read this post, too.

If you received this email related to Ecobank transferring of funds. Don’t call the phone number given nor send a email response to the email address.

Why? Giving personal information to the person you don’t personally know online and offline is very risky. The scammers will use your personal information. They may hack your credit card or search your personal information online and use your personal information (identity theft) for other fraudulent activities.

  1. When we review this email message, we think that it is another Nigerian scam email fraud. There are lots of email scam reviews like this around the internet.
